Modifications for Emotiva B1+ Speakers

What you are getting for your money, is a 15 page PDF instruction manual, as a download, with more than 60 photos. These are step by step photos of doing the work, as well as links to components.

There are two physical mods you can make - one in particular is helpful to the way this speaker sounds when you turn it up to higher volumes. The other is for improving the bass response, and allows you to tune the bass response, and improve the quality of the bass and lower midrange. Overall, the modifications together make sound quality improvements, that I think are clear and obvious.

The crossover modification uses high quality parts of the key components, that are still reasonably priced. At the time of writing, these cost about $110 plus shipping. I do not sell parts, nor am I able to sell completed crossover - this would be way more complicated than I can contemplate.

I do provide links to my recommended suggestions, from both Madisound and Parts Express. You can buy parts from where ever you choose to; and you can determine how much you spend. In addition to Madisound and Parts Express, there are other sources for crossover components.

The crossover upgrade involves air core coils, which are larger than the stock units, and require mounting them adjacent to the stock crossover.

The response graph is an average of the left and right speakers in my listening room, with the UMIK-1 calibrated mic, 1 meter away from the speakers, on the listening axis. It is gated to about 50ms. Measuring bass in a room is always problematic, so don’t worry about the graph below about 250Hz.
